EPISODE TRANSCRIPT
[00:00:34.890]
Welcome back to another episode of The Design Of You, the podcast. My name is Leah, and I'm excited to talk to you guys today about the power of intention. This one has been really big on my heart lately, so I'm excited to kind of talk about everything around intention and how I use that in my life and conversations I've been having with friends about intention. And before I get into that, I wanted just to say a couple of announcements. So, first and foremost, I just launched two new offerings in my business.
[00:01:12.180]
If you've been paying attention on Instagram, you will have seen that there is one, a new free offering. It is the 64 gates guide. So I put together this pdf going through each of the planets within human design. So this is kind of where the astrology comes in a little bit, but it's taking the themes of each planet and then applying those to what we call our gates in human design, using the planets with the gifts or the gates, because our gates are really our gifts and seeing how those themes show up in your life. So it's a really fun workbook, sort of PDF cheat sheet guide that's free for you.
[00:01:48.630]
I will put it in the show notes. And secondly, I also launched something brand new. Those of you who have been with me for a while now, you know that one of the things that I've had in my business is something called chart summaries. And chart summaries are essentially a PDF guide of your chart. And how those came to life was by, back when I was working my corporate nine to five and doing human design readings on the side, and I was really just learning human design.
[00:02:20.560]
What I would do is I would take someone's chart and I would basically dissect and analyze the entire thing and put it into this pDf document. I would kind of just write everything that I needed to know. And then when I would meet with that person for their session or reading, I would then have all the information, and then afterwards I would give that to them with the recording, and then they have this really cool just sort of reference document. And it was really great because that's how I was learning human design, and people really liked them. And it was a way to kind of remember everything that we talked about.
[00:02:52.310]
And so I decided, well, after a while, I should say that when I was working my corporate job, it was really hard to be able to find the time to do sessions with people. And so I kind of had the idea, like, maybe I should just start selling these. Maybe I should just sell these little guides on your human design for people to purchase, and then they can learn about their human design without having to have a one-on-one session. So I had a basic version. I believe I launched it in February of 2021.
[00:03:21.440]
And then last summer, I guess not last summer, but the summer of 2021, I then launched an in-depth version. And this was really taking that information and then making them really detailed and really educational. And those had so much love, and people were obsessed with them, and they were about 85 plus pages. And so I essentially wrote like a textbook. And then I launched a relationships version where I would take two charts, what we call a composite chart, and I would break that down.
[00:03:59.320]
And people really liked those as well. So I kind of had these three versions: a basics version, an in-depth version, and then the relationship version. And I had a moment this summer where I really felt like this wasn't really speaking to my level of knowledge in the way that I want to talk about human design anymore. They were very detailed, which people loved. And then some people were like, this is a little bit too much information.
[00:04:26.550]
And so I really had a moment where I was thinking about my intention with human design. And I want the work that I put out into the world to really be me. I want it to be my experience. I want it to be embodied in how I use human design. I want you to take this information and actually apply it to your life and not just have more information about yourself that you don't know what to do with.
[00:04:54.380]
So I had a moment where I felt like, these really aren't me anymore. And although people love them, and although this was one of the ways that I was making quite a bit of money in my business, I felt like it was time to kind of remove them from the shelves, aka my website, and put them away and just go back to the drawing board and come up with something a little bit better. So that's what I did. And for a few weeks, actually, probably around a month, I still was selling them with knowing that I was going to make a change. And every single sale that I made, I had this feeling inside where I was like, oh, it's not as good as the one that I'm going to create though.
[00:05:35.740]
So I decided to just pull them completely. I'm not a business coach by any means, but I will say the one thing that I've learned about business and being a conscious business owner is that you can't do things in your business or in your life that you don't agree with or that you don't really feel is something that you love or it's to its best ability. And I think part of the reason why I struggled with it is because I used to work in development and we talk a lot in website development. That was my previous life before doing what I do now. We talk a lot about MVP, minimal, viable product and putting something out there as a starting point and then making it better with time.
[00:06:18.940]
And I felt like that was really my MVP. But then I had a moment where I was like, I don't want an MVP out in the world. I want something amazing. I want people to want to keep buying them. And I want people to really like this be something that they just take into their life and it changes them.
[00:06:37.200]
Really. I just wanted to create something phenomenal. So I decided, you know what? I'm going to pull these from the shelves. And honestly, full transparency.
[00:06:46.250]
Business has slowed down for me for the past month and a half, two months almost, of just kind of like I don't really have one of the things that I used to have in my business. And money finances are looking a little bit different, but that's okay because I don't want to make money in a way that isn't serving people to the best ability that I feel like I can. And so I'm really excited to finally announce that I have relaunched my chart summaries and now I only have one version available, which is called the Human Design Guidebook. And this guidebook is really a comprehensive and completely, totally personalized guidebook to your unique human design. You will learn about each piece of your human design, how that shows up in your life.
[00:07:34.520]
I will give you real life examples. I will give you journaling prompts to practice thinking about different parts of your design. I will give you exercises to bring this into your life in a practical way. I also provide affirmations so you can really use these things in a lot of different ways. And I also include fun mad libs and little fill in the blanks and worksheets because I wanted you to have this beautiful booklet to learn about yourself.
[00:08:06.010]
And then at the end I wanted you to be able to integrate it. I want human design to be something you take into your life, like I said, not just be one more piece of information about yourself that you're now trying to figure out how this is in line with this other personality test that you took or another thing that someone had told you. I really want it to be practical because that's how it's been in my life. The way that I approach human design is, okay, how can I take this, and how can I do things with this every single day? And there's exercises I give people when I have sessions with them.
[00:08:38.170]
And I want you to be able to have all of those exercises specific to portions or pieces of your chart, and it includes checklists and everything else. So I am so stoked to put this out into the world. They are available on my website. You'll see it right when you go to the designofue.com. I will link it in the show notes.
[00:08:58.650]
I price them at 77. 77. So $77.77 for one. I love angel numbers, and since they're completely customized and personalized, I literally get your chart and I dissect the entire thing myself. Write this guide, and then you get that in your email seven to 14 days later.
[00:09:19.240]
And there will be an option at the beginning of December for you to expedite this process so you will be able to get them a lot quicker. So stay tuned for that. I will try and update on Instagram. I will put a note in the podcast when that happens. So thank you so much for supporting me and believing in my work.
[00:09:37.180]
I really hope you guys love these. And one of the major questions I've gotten know, what's the difference between this and other PDF guides that exist today from other readers? And really, my simple answer is, I'm me. I'm Leah. I'm the design of you and my approach.
[00:09:53.030]
And as I add my flavor to human design, that's what's invoked within here. So there are beautiful guides that I have purchased, and I've worked with people and been mentored by people who sell very similar products. But the difference is this is me and this is my approach. And I will say that the difference outside of that is this is a tool. It's almost like a workbook.
[00:10:16.930]
Yes. It'll be a beautiful book that you can print and you can have on your coffee table. You can print out and keep it for you to read every night. You can say the affirmations that are listed. You can take this and do your journaling exercises, but that's really it.
[00:10:31.930]
It allows you to really take this information and then apply it and there's the different worksheets and exercises and all that good stuff kind of put into this thing. So that's the difference. I hope you guys love them, and I just cannot wait to start seeing them make their way into the world. So thank you. Now let's move on to the portion of the episode.
[00:10:57.490]
What we're going to talk about today is intention. The power of intention. And I mentioned at the beginning, this is something that's been coming up quite a bit for me recently, because I did a liver cleanse in August. I did the medical medium, three, six, nine cleanse. And this cleanse is really to help get your liver back into alignment, really.
[00:11:23.900]
And medical medium is extremely controversial. So do what's best for you. Consult your doctor. I'm not telling you to do this. I had done it because I had been reading about it for two and a half years, and I decided that I wanted to do it at some point.
[00:11:40.530]
Why? Because I come from a family of alcoholics. I'm a recovering party girl. I have been drinking since I was in high school, and I have gone a long, time consuming alcohol, and I continue to consume alcohol. But I wanted to give my liver a break.
[00:11:59.450]
And my intention with doing that cleanse was, I want to give my liver a break. I want to learn a little bit more about myself. I love doing challenges. Like, I've done the whole 30, and I've tried the plant based. It tends to be a lot of times with food, but I've also done 30 days of this challenge or one week of yoga.
[00:12:25.390]
Just different challenges. I love that stuff. And I think it's really important for growth as human beings to try things out. I always say, too, going back on the diet subject, the whole 30 was very much something that really kind of changed the way that I eat a lot. And so I think I always kind of recommend that one.
[00:12:45.190]
But like I said, consult your doctor. I am not a medical professional, but just kind of speaking from my experience, I just think doing different challenges can be fun to learn about you and to really kind of push your growth edges. Anyway, so I did this cleanse, and during this, my intention was to stop drinking for the nine days that you do it and to really learn about the way that I cook. So in this cleanse, you do not consume any fat, so no oils and no salt. And so it was really interesting cooking without olive oil, which I feel like I drink a gallon of a day by the amount of times I use olive oil on things, even just salt in general.
[00:13:28.050]
And it was honestly, some people are going to be like, you're a crazy person when you look up this cleanse. It was not that hard for me, but I think that's because I'm generally pretty healthy, but also because it was just a lot of food. So I never actually found myself hungry during it, which I feel like cleanse. You feel like hungry? I actually just felt like I was overly full.
[00:13:52.090]
Anyway, so why this leads into the power of intention is because my intention with that was to help cleanse my liver. And since then, I realized that I do like to consume alcohol. And I think I could do an entire episode on spirituality and alcohol. And I think I'm going to at some point. And why that is is because it could be a very interesting subject where some people think that you can't consume alcohol if you're in the spiritual space.
[00:14:25.670]
And I totally can agree with that for some things. But for me, my life is all about doing what's everyone's life is about doing what's best for them. And when it comes to joy and the things that light me up as a generator, I really do love a moment when I can have a glass of wine with a friend. And so I decided to, after that cleanse, I have been going into weekend saying my intention to drink is x fill in the blank. It's been a huge game changer for me, and I'm really not surprised, because when I form an intention around something, it tends to land or change my life in a more positive way.
[00:15:13.670]
For example, when I used to go out with friends, or if I was at dinner with friends and we were ordering a glass of wine or having cocktails, it would be like, I'm just going to see how many cocktails I can consume until I realize this is way too many. Right? And I think what happens a lot of times with alcohol, alcohol is a toxic and very honestly dangerous, poisonous substance. But when used with intention, like any drug, alcohol, even food, even spiritual tools, it can be a positive thing. I was like, okay, I know that drinking is not the most supportive thing for me, and I would say more so a hangover is not the most supportive thing for me because I'm a business owner.
[00:16:06.690]
I cannot have my mind off in any way it affects my income. I just don't show up to a job and get a salary. I have to show up every single day. And if you don't see me on instagram, I promise you there's a thousand things going on in my head around things that I'm doing or projects or ideas that I have. It's really up to me.
[00:16:30.200]
And really, in any part of our life, it's up to us to do what makes us feel the best. And so alcohol sometimes doesn't make us feel our best selves, but there is something beautiful about having. Like I said, I love a glass of wine, a glass of cabernet, to be exact. I love to have a glass of red wine with a friend and talk and catch up, and it relaxes the two of us, and we get to just chill. And that's truly one of my favorite rituals.
[00:16:58.710]
When it came to this intention, I was like, I'm going to start going into weekends with this intention. And so it was Labor Day weekend where we were invited to go on this boat with a dj, go through the harbor in Newport. And it was so fun. Very not my style, I should say, with music and that sort of thing and drinking, and a lot of times those kind of events have drugs and things, and I'm not really into any of that either. My intention is to really let go.
[00:17:28.080]
This is the long holiday weekend. I'm going to have fun. And I did. I had a great time. And I woke up the next day, which I thought was going to be like my hangover from hell.
[00:17:37.520]
And it wasn't. And I think it was because at a point with nights moving forward, I've been able to say, like, I need a water. I don't want another drink, or, I'm good, or, hey, I'm going to drive home. And I know that some of you listening might be like, yeah, this is pretty obvious, but it's not. I had a conversation last week with a friend.
[00:18:01.280]
It was her birthday, and we were out, and we were talking about alcohol, and we were saying, I had shared on Instagram that I'd been doing this for a while, creating an intention around consuming alcohol and how it's been a game changer. And I've been able to really kind of just change my relationship completely with it. They brought that up, and we ended up talking about how all of us were feeling very similarly and how they really liked the idea of the intention. And so I thought, you know what? No better way than to just.
[00:18:29.650]
This be my podcast episode this week is, let's talk about the power of intention. So I want to start with saying, what is intention? In my personal definition, intention is really setting aside time or words to think about what it is that you want or what it is that you need going into your life or a situation. What this can look like is a daily five minute journal, setting the intention for the day, setting goals for the day. I mean, that's your intention for what you want to complete.
[00:19:08.830]
Intention can be just mindfully sitting down and saying, I am doing x, because this will lead to x. And you can fill in the blanks there. And so, as it came to drinking, there was a few weeks later where it was a friend's birthday, and I got invited to go to a drag show. And I said, I am going to this drag show and I am not going to drink. My intention is to have fun, but I plan to drive home.
[00:19:45.290]
That was my intention, and I had the greatest time. And so, knowing that you have the power to make an intention around something can change your life. And it sounds simple, but I think that we forget just how powerful it can be to say, this is why I am doing something. Because I think where we get in trouble is when we don't have an intention and we end up doing something that we didn't want to do, or we end up in a situation that we aren't happy with, or we don't feel our best because we didn't really tune into what we really needed. We didn't tune into our authority and our intuition, strategy, and authority.
[00:20:26.250]
Therefore, we're now kind of suffering the consequences. So that said, I wanted to talk about a couple examples, and I want to give you guys some tools to be able to use intentions or to be more intentional in your life. And then I'm going to provide you guys some mantras that you can sit quietly and use while you're thinking about your intentions. I feel like I gave this example in one of my last episodes, but it's just a really nice one to think about when it comes to intention and even manifestation, because really, manifestation is our intention. It's about aligning our actions with our intentions.
[00:21:11.610]
And manifestation is also the outward result of an inward intention, the process of turning your desires into form by activating your energy and raising that frequency based on the intention that you want. The example that I may have used, like I said, I can't remember, is when you go, imagine you're going into a grocery store. Personally, when I go to like, one of the things that I always get when I go to Costco is they've got the best selection of frozen fruit. I'm a smoothie addict, if you didn't know, drink a smoothie every single day. And so I pretty much go to Costco once a week and get, like, giant bags of dragon fruit and mango and pineapple and fill in the blank.
[00:22:01.190]
Sometimes if I do not have a list, maybe this is a bad example because I never forget because that's like half the reason I go. But maybe sometimes I have to grab something else. For example, oh, this is a good one. So toilet paper. Toilet paper is really cheap at Costco.
[00:22:16.080]
So most people, I feel like, literally have a membership simply because of that. And this has happened before where I go to Costco and I'm like, okay, I have to get my frozen fruit, and then I also have to get toilet paper. And then you forget your toilet paper because you didn't write that down and you didn't have that intention very clear. Maybe you did have it clear where you left your house, and you're like, okay, we need toilet paper. But then you didn't write it down.
[00:22:41.670]
And so that intention didn't stick with you. And so the power of intention is saying, like, I'm clear on what I want, I'm laser focused on it, I declare it, and I revisit that. And that's where that manifestation piece comes in. And so by therefore, you get into Costco, you get what you need quicker, and you check out and you get to where you want to go a lot faster. And so that's just an example of kind of how intentions can work and how they can help you manifest.
[00:23:09.410]
And another example that I like to tell people is when people set up a reading with me, I think that sometimes people don't realize that, yes, I'm very intuitive, and there are things that come through to me that I write down and then just stuff fires off. And I can channel things and help you in that aspect, but human design is really helping you understand your energy. And it's like I'm reading a chart a lot of times. It's not like this psychic experience that's happening. And so sometimes people don't give me a lot to work with.
[00:23:41.720]
And that's okay, because I think some people really just want to sit back and hear. But I always tell people, the most powerful thing you can do when you have a session with me is telling me what you're going through. You could tell me, I'm really struggling with the current job that I have, and you can tell me things about why it's not aligning or, and kind of what you're thinking about going into the future, and we can talk about those things, and I can guide you through your energy to support that. It's kind of like going to a doctor and saying, I don't feel good, but then not telling them where you don't feel good. And so then they can't prescribe you or give you any professional advice about what to do next.
[00:24:25.210]
Intention can also be like, if you are scheduling a session with someone, or you're seeing a doctor or working with someone, or even having a conversation with a friend, putting the intention out there like this is what I'm hoping to get. And I know that I will get to my intentions faster when I'm clear about it. I'm laser focused on it, and I have that clarity, and I declare it, and I go in and we start with that intentions, that intention, intentional days, intentional moments, intentional ideas. That creates a life of purpose. Instead of living life out of habit, it's better to live life with more intent.
[00:25:09.610]
The other thing that I love to remind people is that your intention creates your reality. So if your intention is to become a millionaire, well, then, amazing. That's your intention. And now bring that intention forward every single day. Think about it, feel it, really visualize it, write it down, get clear, be focused, be specific on how, and then show up like that every single day, your intention creates your reality.
[00:25:46.430]
So if your intention is constantly, I'm lazy, or like, I'm tired, or I don't have enough time for this, guess what? Your life will stay that way. If you keep saying you don't have enough time for this, you will never have enough time for that. If you say that your intention is to become fit and to get into shape, and that is your intention, guess what? You get to have that.
[00:26:10.330]
You get to show up and do that every single day. Where we go wrong is when we set intentions, and then we're not so clear on it, and then we don't match our actions to that. And so intention can also be like, I'm setting this intention, and then I'm also going to tell myself how. So, going back to my drinking example. So for me, it's like, okay, in a couple of weekends.
[00:26:28.980]
Now, this has happened even over Halloween. I was like, okay, my intention is, it's Halloween. I will be consuming alcohol. I'm going to be having the greatest time with my friends. We're all dressed up.
[00:26:36.850]
This is so fun. I am an extrovert. I love to talk to people, so I get to connect, I get to hang out. And then guess what? After I hang out with people and have all that fun, my intention is that tomorrow morning, I want to get up and go for a run.
[00:26:53.840]
And so that's what I did. I literally set that intention. And at one point, we were out at this thing we bought tickets to, and Xander's like, hey, do you want another drink from the bar? And I said, not really, I'm good. Because I had set the intention in my mind that I don't want to feel like crap tomorrow.
[00:27:14.070]
I know I want to go for a run. And I knew that we were doing stuff the next day with friends, and I wanted to not be a low vibration of myself. I wanted to be able to do that. So being intentional creates a reality. And so I want to offer now three tips for being more intentional.
[00:27:35.350]
So, tip number one is think of an area of your life where you feel scattered. And if you're driving or if you have a moment, you're at your desk, maybe I want you to literally pause this. And I want you to write down anywhere in your life where you feel scattered, maybe out of touch with. Maybe you feel like you're not showing up to your best ability. And so I'm going to give you a moment to just think about that.
[00:28:15.520]
Okay. Now that you have thought of an area of your life where you feel scattered, I offer now the question of why do you feel scattered? For example, when it came to alcohol for me, I felt scattered because I was continuing to meet up with friends and consume a poisonous substance that did not make me feel great the next day because I was doing too much of it and I did not have a proper intention. My intention going in was, this makes me feel like crap. And so now I'm going to feel like crap.
[00:28:59.030]
And so I had it that way, and now my intention is a lot different. So think of why you feel scattered there. What would you like that area to look like? Where in your life do you feel scattered, and what would you like it to look like? What would you like that area of your life to feel like?
[00:29:21.650]
What would you like that area of your life to feel like, look like, taste like, picture it. And after you write what you would like that area to look like, I want you to write what is an intention that you can make to change it. If you said that you do not like the area of your finances, for example, maybe you feel really scattered for where your finances are and why is maybe because you are not paying attention. Maybe you feel scattered because you don't know what bills are coming in, you don't know what auto pays you have scheduled, you don't know how much you actually make. You don't know how many taxes are coming out.
[00:30:15.220]
And maybe you would like that area to look not scattered. Maybe you would like it to look more abundant. Maybe you would like the numbers to be bigger. And so your intention to change that perhaps could be I'm going to sit down and I'm going to write down where my finances are, and my intention is that I am going to pay attention to every purchase that I make. Or maybe it's if you don't know where your auto pays are.
[00:30:49.970]
This is a personal experience, honestly, that I'm speaking about. I'm going to sit down and write every single auto pay that I have set up and what day that comes out and how much is it, and just getting really clear on that so you can apply this to anywhere in your life. That's a tip for being more intentional. Tip number two, the five minute journal is something that I love, but I'm actually going to put a human design lens on this. And if you've listened to me before, if you had a reading with me before, you know, this exercise is something that I live by.
[00:31:27.260]
Starting your morning thinking about what would make you feel your signature theme. In other words, the sign that you're in alignment. So, for generators and manifesting generators, what would make me feel satisfied today? Or what is my intention to feel satisfied today? For projectors, it is what is my intention to feel successful today?

For manifesto, it is what is my intention to make myself feel at peace today? For reflectors, what is my intention to feel pleasantly surprised today? And then at the end of the day, I always recommend saying, what did satisfy me? What did make me feel successful? What did bring peace in my life today?

What did pleasantly surprise me today? And then also leading into our not self theme, the sign that we're out of alignment, what made me feel frustrated today and why? And what made me feel bitter today? What made me feel angry today? What made me feel disappointed today?

You can look up your chart on my site to see which signature and not self theme that you have. My last tip for creating a more intentional life is to stay focused on. I have two tips, actually. One is to stay present in the moment, because when we are focused on the future or we are focused on the past, it's really hard to be intentional about where we currently are. I also offer to stay focused on your to do list.

So, starting your day, even going back to the practice that I gave using your human design, is writing what would make me feel sorry. My signature theme today. Satisfaction, peace, success, or surprise. What are the things on that list? And if that's your to do list, how can you stay focused on that if you have an open head center, the top center of your human design chart, if it is open, aka White also would say that only two to three things are good for you versus having maybe a longer list.

I would just have a couple of things that you can tackle per day. So those are just three tips on being more intentional. And finally, I want to offer some affirmations that you can take into your life to think about intention. And these are like mantras that you can say these and I'm going to say them out loud, so feel free to close your eyes, not if you're driving. And just think about these mantras and even maybe write them or say them out loud to help you create a more intentional life.

Okay, so I'll begin. My intention goes where my energy flows. I live with intention. My intention is happiness, joy, money, my soulmate, success, health. You fill in the blank.
[00:34:45.420]
Intention means that I create a life of purpose and meaning. I align my actions with my intentions. My intention creates my reality. Okay, now that I've said those, write them down, take them with you. Fill in the blank for that one in the middle, and I hope that that allows you to think about your intentions a little bit deeper.

I am opening the doors to a very special program later this year. It is going to be a program dedicated to using every part of your human design to manifest your best life, to decondition, to set goals, to really create the life that is in alignment to who you are, that's authentic to you. And we'll use human design as your backbone to get you to that place. It's going to be a one on one program working directly with me over six months and I can't wait to tell you guys more about it. I am working through the final details and building out pieces of the program, and I will be taking two beta clients coming up soon, so stay tuned for that on Instagram.

But this is going to be my favorite program yet, and it does start with intention. The first module is all about intentions and really help you to think about what you want, how to get what you want, and how to bring that into your reality. Thank you for spending the last few half hour or so minutes with me. I love you and I'm so happy that you're here and I hope that this helps you. I'd love to hear what some of your intentions are, so please let me know by dming me, emailing me whatever way you can get in touch with me.

I would love to hear more about your intentions and definitely look out for the new program and take a look at the new free 64 gates guide and the guidebook. I think that you will love it if you love this sort of exercise. All right, have an amazing rest of your day, evening, week, whatever it is. Bye.
